Here are three of my favorite intimate garden wedding venues in the Bay Area—and why they’re perfect for your special day.

Elizabeth F. Gamble Garden – Palo Alto

This historic 2.5-acre property tucked into the heart of Palo Alto is a hidden oasis. The Elizabeth F. Gamble Garden is known for its romantic rose gardens, elegant trellises, and tranquil herb and wisteria gardens. Seasonal blooms—from camellias in winter to vibrant dahlias and roses in the warmer months—offer a colorful and fragrant backdrop for ceremonies.

The atmosphere is peaceful and charming, with shaded brick walkways and ivy-covered pergolas lending themselves perfectly to heartfelt vows. When I perform harp here, the melodies blend softly with birdsong and the rustling of leaves. It’s an ideal location for couples who value privacy, lush greenery, and a timeless setting.

I played for Prelude and Ceremony in the Rose Garden, then Cocktail by the Tea House and part of the Dinner Reception by the Carriage House.

Shakespeare Garden – Golden Gate Park, San Francisco

Nestled within Golden Gate Park, Shakespeare Garden is one of San Francisco’s most poetic wedding spots. True to its name, the garden features over 200 plants and flowers mentioned in the works of William Shakespeare—like lavender, roses, daisies, and poppies—surrounding a secluded lawn framed by brick walls, boxwood hedges, and a charming sundial.

It’s a quiet haven amidst the bustling city, with a literary and romantic ambiance that pairs beautifully with soft harp music. The garden’s gentle acoustics and lush setting enhance every note I play, creating an immersive experience that feels both elegant and grounded in nature.

Ruth Bancroft Garden – Walnut Creek

This stunning 3.5-acre space is filled with drought-tolerant succulents, cacti, and other sculptural desert plants that provide striking texture and bold architectural interest.

The golden afternoon light filtering through spiky agaves and blooming aloes creates a dramatic, yet peaceful, backdrop. Playing harp here is a special joy—the contrast of the delicate strings against the rugged desert landscape is visually and sonically compelling. It’s a perfect example of elegance meeting edge.
